CRPF To Provide Security To CBI Teams Probing Bengal Post-Poll Violence

The Centre has provided security cover by CRPF to the CBI teams probing cases of post-poll violence in West Bengal, sources in the security set up told news agency IANS on Thursday. Four companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed for providing security to the CBI teams probing the matter.

Japan Suspends 1.6 Mn Doses Of Moderna Covid Vaccine Over Contamination Fears

Japan has suspended the use of about 1.63 million doses of the Moderna vaccine due to contamination. The health ministry said "foreign materials" were found in some doses of a batch of roughly 560,000 vials. 


Moderna said no safety or efficacy issues had been identified. "To date, no safety or efficacy issues have been identified," Moderna said, adding that it would work with regulators and Takeda to investigate the matter further.

Poet Munawar Rana's Son Arrested For Faking Attack

Poet Munawar Rana's son has been arrested for allegedly faking an attack on himself to implicate his uncles.

Tabrez Rana, who is embroiled in an ancestral property dispute with his uncle, was arrested by the Rae Bareli police from Lalkuan locality in Lucknow, late on Wednesday night.

Rana, who wanted to contest the state assembly elections from Tiloi in Rae Bareli, had staged the attack on himself to get security and media coverage, besides implicating his uncles, the police official said.

He had lodged a complaint with the Rae Bareli police alleging that he was attacked by two bike-borne men at a petrol pump in the Hindola Ratapur area on June 28.

India's Covid Vaccine coverage crosses 60cr-landmark

In a significant achievement, India's Covid-19 vaccination coverage has crossed the 60-crore landmark on Wednesday. The country's total vaccination count under the mass vaccination drive now stands at 60,24,25,271. An official said that more than 66 lakh vaccines doses were administered since Tuesday.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on social media posted: "Under PM Narendra Modi ji's 'Sabko Vaccine Muft Vaccine' initiative, India crossed the 60 crore vaccination mark. Congratulations everyone!"

In another tweet, he said, "The country with the mantra of 'Sabka Swasthya, Sabka Suraksha', India is advancing towards Covid 19 vaccination. India took first 85 days for 10 crore vaccines, next 45 days for 20 crores, 29 days for 30 crores, 24 days for 40 crores, 20 days for 50 crores. And now it took only 19 days to complete 60 crore vaccinations."

Govt Approves Nine Names For Elevation As Judges Of Supreme Court

The Government of India reportedly approved all the nine names recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium for elevation as judges of the apex court. 


According to reports, the Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana declined to concede the request made by the government to reconsider some names. The CJI insisted that all the recommended names should be cleared. With this, the number of apex court judges now stands at 33 including the CJI, against the sanctioned strength of 34. Only one vaccancy is left. 


The nine names nominated by the Supreme Court Collegium include four High Court Chief Justices —Vikram Nath (Gujarat), A S Oka (Karnataka), Hima Kohli (Telangana) and J K Maheshwari (Sikkim) — four High Court judges Justices B V Nagarathna (Karnataka), M M Sundresh (Madras), C T Ravikumar (Kerala) and Bela M Trivedi (Gujarat), and Senior Advocate P S Narasimha.
