Chidambaram To Take Stock Of Cong Preparations For Goa Polls Next Week

As part of its preparations for the 2022 Assembly elections in Goa, Congress leadership will take inputs from the party leaders and cadres to prepare a strategy to take on the BJP, which outwitted the Grand Old Party in forming a government after 2017 polls, a party functionary said on Saturday.

While former Union minister and newly-appointed AICC election observer for Goa P. Chidambaram will be on his first visit to Goa on August 25 and 26, AICC incharge of Goa Dinesh Rao will visit various blocks in the coastal state on August 23 and 24 during which he will meet the party leaders, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee vice president (Organisation) M K Sheikh said.

The next Assembly elections are due in February 2022 in Goa.

Breaking News HIGHLIGHTS, 21 August, 2021: Delhi and its National Capital Region continues to witness heavy rainfall for the second consecutive day on Saturday. The downpour has highly affected the daily life bringing the usual activities to a standstill. Waterlogging has been reported in several parts of Delhi and its neighbouring areas following heavy rainfall. Vehicular movement is also affected due to waterlogging in parts of Delhi. As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi will witness a "generally cloudy sky with moderate rain/thundershowers" today. Earlier on Friday, the IMD had predicted light to moderate rain for parts of Delhi.


Delhi (Safdarjung) reported 73.2mm rain during 2.30am-5.30am of August 21. Delhi Traffic Police informed that Azad Market underpass is closed due to 1.5 feet waterlogging. Vehicular movement affected due to waterlogging in ITO area. Traffic movement on Minto Bridge (both carriageway) and Moolchand Underpass has also been closed due to waterlogging. 


Meanwhile, an FIR was registered against poet Munawwar Rana for allegedly inciting religious feelings by comparing Valmiki, who wrote Ramayana, with Taliban. The FIR was registered at Hazratganj police station under Sections 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth etc.), 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class), 505(1)(B) (with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public) and the SC/ST atrocities prevention act.
