The BJP’s Punjab unit has written to Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra requesting for “postponement” of the state assembly elections on account of Guru Ravidas Jayanti on February 16. His statements came after Congress and Akali Dal demanded the same.

A lot of political developments are taking place in the country. The core group of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh has a meeting with the central leadership of BJP today. There will also be a meeting with Sanjay Nishad and there may be a meeting with Anupriya Patel as well. The seat-sharing of the alliance will be discussed. Earlier on Sunday, the Goa BJP Core Group meeting was held at the BJP Headquarters.

The country's Home Minister Amit Shah will hold a rally in the state after January 23, during which he will visit every district and tour the entire state of Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Chandrashekhar Ravan's Azad Samaj Party will have a press conference on Monday. Akhilesh Yadav had offered two seats to Azad Samaj Party but the Bhim Army chief said, “After all the discussions, I felt in the end that Akhilesh Yadav does not want Dalits in this alliance, he just wants Dalit vote bank,” said Azad, ANI reported.

Manohar Singh, the brother of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who was eyeing a Congress ticket from the Bassi Pathana assembly seat, said on Sunday that he will run as an independent after the ruling party selected its existing MP.
