Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a public rally in Jalandhar on Monday ahead of Assembly elections in Punjab. Congress is the incumbent government in the state. Assembly polls for electing 117 assembly seats in Punjab will be held on February 20.
In the 2017 Assembly polls in the state, the Congress had won an absolute majority by winning 77 seats and ousted the SAD-BJP government which had been in power for 10 years.

Karnataka High Court will pending petitions related to the Hijab row today. The hearing is scheduled to start at 2.30 pm. Meanwhile, classes for high school students up to class 10 will resume from today after they were closed due to the tensions prevailing over the controversy.
The Karnataka High Court, in its interim order pending consideration of all petitions related to the Hijab row, had earlier requested the state government to reopen educational institutions and restrained all the students from wearing saffron shawls, scarves, Hijab and any religious flag within the classroom.
Notably, the joint session of the Karnataka Legislature beginning today is likely to be rocked by the ongoing Hijab row and related law and order situation in the state, allegations of kickbacks by contractors association and Mekedatu project implementation issue, among others.
The 10-day session that will go on till February 25, will begin with Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot addressing the joint sitting of members of both Legislative Assembly and the Council on the first day.
This will be Gehlot's first address to the joint session, after taking over as the Governor in July, last year.
Congress is likely to corner the government on several issues, including the hijab controversy, and the related law and order situation, with protests in this regard turning violent in some parts. It is also likely to raise the issue of 40 per cent kickback charges levelled by the Karnataka State Contractors Association against politicians, Ministers and bureaucrats.
In Kolkata, the counting of votes will be held today for the February 12 elections to municipal corporations of Bidhannagar, Asansol, Siliguri, and Chandernagore in West Bengal. The counting of votes will start at 8 am.
On February 12, a voter turnout of 72.02 per cent was registered in Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation till 5 PM, while the polling percentage in Siliguri, Asansol and Chandernagore were 71.87, 71.67 and 71.49 respectively.
Altogether, 203 candidates contested in 41 wards in Bidhannagar, while 200 were in the fray in 47 seats of the Siliguri civic body, as per the SEC website.
In Siliguri, the CPM won the 2015 municipal elections, while the three other municipal corporations had TMC securing victory. The elections to these civic bodies were postponed due to COVID-19.
