Kolkata: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member impersonating a fake public service officer has been arrested by the Kolkata Police from the Gariahat area.


From attending international events to taking part in the BRICS Summit alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this fake officer claims to have done all.


He had joined the BJP in West Bengal earlier in 2014.

When the Gariahat Police grew suspicious of a blue beacon car with a CBI logo stuck on it, they arrested the fake officer who claimed to be a CBI Special Counsel besides impersonating as Standing Counsel, West Bengal Government.


The pictures of him with BJP leader Rudranil Ghosh has brought the latter under fire. “We meet so many people. How to recognize who's genuine, who's not?” claimed Ghosh.


According to police sources, the imposter has travelled to various countries and taken part in an official event abroad. The investigations are being conducted as to how he got the entry there.


From attending international events to visiting Johannesburg, South Africa, last year to take part in the BRICS Summit alongside Prime Minister Modi on behalf of the Ministry of Home Affairs, this fake officer is claiming to have done all.


Within days of the arrest of the fraud and criminal conspirator Debanjan Deb posing as a fake IAS officer, another man has been arrested for alleged forgery, impersonation as Standing Counsel, Government of West Bengal, and criminal conspiracy.


Sanatan Ray Chaudhuri, a resident of Mondal Para, Baranagar, was arrested by the Gariahat Police on Monday from the Sithi area.

In a surprising post on social media, the accused claimed to have checked in at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence at Kalighat together with TMC legislator Asit Banerjee.


He has also posted multiple pictures with TMC leaders Asit Banerjee and Samrat Tapadar.


A blue beacon-fitted Ford EcoSport with a sticker with a CBI logo on it has been confiscated from the accused by the investigating team.


A lawyer by profession, he is accused of committing property-related deceitful activities and criminal conspiracy in the Gariahat Police Station area under the false pretense of being a standing council of the state government.


His social media accounts claim him to be a senior advocate and legal practitioner with the Supreme Court of India. Further investigation is on as the police are looking into other fraud cases he might be involved in.


This comes within days after Debanjan Deb impersonating as a fake IAS officer with the West Bengal government and conducting fake vaccination camps and other fraudulent activities was arrested.


TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty busted the fake vaccination racket after growing suspicions on not receiving any sms after being vaccinated.


Another woman Radharani Biswas has been accused of illegally procuring lakhs of money duping several unemployed youth and promising them jobs posing as a fake CID Officer.
