BJP Won't Be Responsible If Congress Govt Faces Karnataka-Like Crisis In Madhya Pradesh: Shivraj Singh Chouhan
On Madhya Pradesh's political situation, Chouhan told ANI "There is an internal conflict in Congress, and support of BSP-SP, if something happens to that then we can't do anything."
Bhopal: As the BJP is expected to stake claim to form the next government in Karnataka today, former chief minister of MP Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, "We (BJP) will not cause the fall of government here (Madhya Pradesh)".
On the state's political situation, Chouhan told news agency ANI "There is an internal conflict in Congress, and support of BSP-SP, if something happens to that then we can't do anything."
Karnataka was crucial for the party as it was the only southern state in which the Congress was in power. After losing Karnataka, the grand old party is now left with governments in just four states and a Union territory. On Tuesday, Congress-JDS government in the state collapsed after it lost the confidence vote, garnering 99 votes against the 105 to the BJP in the assembly, ending the nearly three-week-long high political drama. The Congress now has governments in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Puducherry. The coalition needed 103 votes in its favour to win the motion as 20 MLAs Congress-JDS (17), BSP (1), Independents (2) skipped proceedings, reducing the effective strength of the House to 205. Later in the day, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy submitted his resignation to the Karnataka governor shortly after losing the confidence motion in the assembly, capping an intense power struggle triggered by a raft of resignations by rebel MLAs that pushed the government to the brink of collapse.
