BJP Portrayed Tamil Nadu Government As 'Anti-Hindu' Which Is Totally False, State Police Tells SC

Tamil Nadu Police filed an affidavit in Supreme Court in relation to the PIL filed against State’s alleged oral order banning live telecast of the consecration ceremony of Lord Ram on January 22.

The Tamil Nadu’s Director General of Police on Monday submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court in relation to the PIL filed against State’s alleged oral order banning live telecast of the consecration ceremony of Lord Ram at Ayodhya temple in State’s temple on January 22. 

The Supreme Court resumed hearing the case against the Tamil Nadu government on Monday and passed an order to relist the case again after 15 days.

"At the request of the counsel for the State of Tamil Nadu, 15 days' time is granted to file a short affidavit pointing out certain facts, including pendency of writ petitions before two high court benches." The bench of Justices Sanjeev Khanna and Dipankar Datta directed.

Tamil Nadu police has submitted in the top court that the Ram Mandir event was telecasted in many temples across the state.

According to ANI, The Tamil Nadu police told the Supreme Court that apart from the live telecast activities such as Poojas and Archanas were conducted in many temples across the State and no interference was done by any police officer for the Pooja and Archanas in the temples throughout the State.

The affidavit by the Police further alleged that the BJP’s State unit secretary Vinoj P Selvam, has portrayed the Tamil Nadu Government as an Anti-Hindu Government which is totally false and condemnable.

The allegation that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has orally instructed not to allow any ceremony or function is “totally baseless and false”, the affidavit states.

The Supreme Court on January 22, had issued notices on a petition filed against the alleged ban on holding live screenings of Ram Temple Consecration Ceremony or performing special poojas or bhajans in the state. In the hearing, the Tamil Nadu Government told the top court that there is no ban on holding live screenings of Ram Temple Consecration Ceremony or performing special poojas or bhajans on the occasion in the state. The court had recorded the statement.

The top court has issued notices to all parties and directed the Tamil Nadu Govt not to summarily reject requests for live-streaming of the Ram Temple Consecration ceremony. 

The court further directed that all rejection orders must show reasons. The court asked the State to maintain a data of the applications received and decisions taken.

The bench passed order saying that the petition has alleged that oral orders have been issued to ban live telecast, performance of poojas, archanas, annadhanas , bhajans on the occasion of Pran Pratishta of Lord Ram at Ayodhya today. Reliance is placed on some documents in support of the said contention.
