UP: BJP MLA fuels controversy; compares Rahul Gandhi to 'Raavan', Priyanka to 'Surpanakha'

He recently backed his party colleague Sadhana Singh, who raised a political storm by calling BSP chief Mayawati "worse than a transgender" and had said there was nothing wrong in her remarks.

New Delhi: BJP MLA Surendra Singh, who is now well-known for coming up with controversial statements, has once again breached the decency of language, this time while referring to Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi and party’s general secretary for UP East Priyanka Gandhi. Singh referred to Rahul as “Raavan” and to Priyanka as the mythological demon’s sister “Surpanakha”. Singh did not stop at this and went on to call Congress a sinking ship. Taking a jibe at the party, he said that it is more of a sinking ship which managed a victory in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh because of SC/ST Act. It was because of this, that it could save a face in the assembly polls, otherwise, it would not win anywhere else, he claimed. The MLA from Bariya constituency said while talking to reporters, “You all are aware that when war was about to start between Lord Ram and Raavan in which Lanka was won over, Raavan had first sent his sister – Surpanakha. It appears that in this war, Rahul is in the role of Ravana and Modi is playing the role of lord Ram. Rahul who is Raavan, has fielded his sister Surpanakha in the battle- now let us assume that Lanka is won this time also.” The motormouth MLA has previously given rise to many controversies. He recently backed his party colleague Sadhana Singh, who raised a political storm by calling BSP chief Mayawati "worse than a transgender". He said there was nothing wrong in her remarks. "There is nothing wrong in what Sadhana Singh said...any person who has zero self-respect is called a transgender. The manner in which Mayawati has joined hands with the Samajwadi Party after the state guest house case of 1995 goes on to prove that she has no self-respect," he said. Last year also he triggered a controversy with his statement that even "Lord Ram could not stop the acts of rape".
