New Delhi: Reaching out to the farming community in the run-up to the assembly elections, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said almost 15 lakh hectares of land in nine districts of Uttar Pradesh have with the completion of projects by his government so far now found a great way for irrigation so as to double the farmers’ income.
Adityanath said that his government has completed 17 out of the 18 projects in Uttar Pradesh during its tenure so far.
“17 out of the 18 UP projects have been completed with which almost 15 lakh hectares of land in UP’s 9 districts have now found a great way for irrigation so as to double the income of farmers,” Adityanath said in Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur, ANI reported.
“We launched projects of Rs 10,000 crore on December 7 and inaugurated nine medical colleges in Siddharthnagar and one international airport in Kushinagar. Saryu Nahar National Project was approved in 1972, the year I was born. I grew up but it never got completed,” he added taking a jibe at the Opposition parties, which earlier ruled the state.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Saryu Canal National Project in the state’s Balrampur district.
This project, which will facilitate irrigation to over 14 lakh hectares of land in nine districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, is likely to benefit over 25 lakh farmers.
Hailed as the biggest river linking project in Uttar Pradesh, the Saryu Canal National Project is the largest among the 99 projects that are to be completed in the country under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana.
