The BJP on Saturday responded sharply to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's remark calling it a "party of terrorists". It has accused the Congress of supporting terrorism while now making baseless allegations against the BJP.

BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi criticised Congress pointing it for endorsing practices like triple talaq, halala, and hijab, stating that these comments reflect the "urban Naxal mindset" that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often mentioned.

"The statement by the Congress President shows how maligned their minds are... If he says that he is progressive and PM Modi is calling him an urban Naxal, then I want to ask him if four wives, triple Talaq, Mehram, Halala, and Hijab are progressive or not, " Trivedi said, news agency ANI reported.

"Supporting all of this and only making inappropriate statements against Hinduism shows the urban naxal mentality of your party... As far as the SC/ST are considered, Kharge Ji's acts have played an important role in Haryana bringing them to this point... No matter how much Congress tries to defend itself, they are completely exposed in front of the people, " he added.

According to PTI, Kharge had made his comments after PM Modi's recent claim that the Congress was being run by a "gang of urban Naxals." In response, Union Minister Giriraj Singh said that Kharge's words mirrored Congress' own history of supporting terrorists.

Union Minister, Pralhad Joshi, suggested that Kharge's remark may have been a slip of the tongue. Citing various incidents where Congress favoured separatists, Joshi said in a post on X, "It was Sonia Gandhi who shed tears for terrorists who died in Batla House. It was Congress which went soft on Afzal Guru. It was Congress that repealed POTA in 2004. It was their PM Manmohan Singh who shook hands with separatist militants." He added that during Prime Minister Modi terrorist activities saw a remarkable decline.

Extremists, Pakistan, And Fundamentalists Also Use Same Language: Gourav Vallabh

BJP leader Gourav Vallabh said, "The words used by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge are the same words used by Pakistan and fundamentalists. Extremists use the same words for the nationalist political parties of India. Today, the language of Mallikarjun Kharge and the language of Pakistan are the same. Today, the language of Mallikarjun Kharge and the language of extremists and fundamentalist groups are the same. So who is closer to whom, the country is watching today, I would not like to say anything more than this."

"Extremists, Pakistan, and fundamentalists also use the same language for the nationalist political parties of India, for nationalist political groups, for the Bharatiya Janata Party, which I feel is against our country today. The country is seeing who is speaking the language of Pakistan and who is working to take the country forward with nationalism," ANI quoted him as saying.

BJP spokesperson C R Kesavan further lashed out at Kharge, saying his remarks reveal Congress' divisive mindset, comparing it to the British colonial strategy of divide and rule.

"The nation should not forget how the Congress equated terrorism with the Hindu community in 2013. It was no less then a Union minister in the Congress-led UPA government, Sushil Kumar Shinde, who derogatorily and demeaningly talked about Hindu terrorism," he said, PTI reported.
