Bhima Koregaon Case Accused Anand Teltumbde Gets Bail By Bombay High Court

This bail has been granted to Teltumbde with a Rs 1 lakh surety.

Anand Teltumbde was granted bail by the Bombay High Court on Friday in the Bhima Koregaon case. This bail has been granted to Teltumbde with a Rs 1 lakh surety, news agency ANI reported.

The court also stayed the ruling for one week in response to the National Investigation Agency's plea to appeal to the Supreme Court.

On January 1, violence occurred during an event commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Bhima-Koregaon fight, killing one person and injuring numerous others, including ten police officers.

During a state-wide closure in January following riots in Bhima-Koregaon, the police filed 58 complaints against 162 persons.

Earlier in the case, the Supreme Court granted bail to 82-year-old campaigner P Varavara Rao.

In an interim ruling issued on Thursday, the Supreme Court granted Gautam Navlakha, another accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, home detention for one month due to his health and age.

A bench of Justices KM Joseph and Hrishikesh Roy directed Navlakha to deposit Rs 2.4 lakh as expenditures for his security cover while under house arrest. He must submit a demand draught in the amount of Rs 2.4 lakh in the name of the Commissioner of Police, Navi Mumbai.

"We consider it appropriate to grant house arrest given his age. Still further, our attention is drawn to the multiple medical problems the petitioner is faced with, and that charges have not been framed in a trial that will not happen in the foreseeable future," the bench observed during the hearing.

Navlakha had petitioned the supreme court to be put under house arrest rather than in the Maharashtra prison of Taloja.
