New Delhi: West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee who was arrested on Saturday by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with its probe into the alleged school jobs scam was hospitalised in the evening after he complained of "uneasiness". According to a PTI report, Chatterjee has several health issues, and was admitted to the ICCU of the state-run SSKM Hospital hours after the senior minister was remanded to two-day ED custody by a city court.

He was later moved to a cabin after his condition improved "a bit", a hospital official said to PTI.

Several tests including ECG were conducted on the TMC secretary general.

"He is stable at the moment. A team of doctors are keeping a close watch on his condition," the official said.

Cardiologist Dr Saroj Mondal is heading the team of doctors that is looking after Chatterjee, the PTI report quoted a source from ED as saying,  Security personnel have been posted outside the minister's cabin.

TMC to take action against Partha Chatterjee if proven guilty

Meanwhile, after the attack by the opposition in the state, the ruling TMC said that they would take action against the minister if proven guilty.

TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh also made it clear that presently the party would not remove Chatterjee as a cabinet minister or the secretary general of the Trinamool Congress.

The party also claimed that it has no relation with the arrested minister’s close associate Arpita Mukherjee, from whose residence around Rs 21 crore in unaccounted cash was seized by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday.

"The TMC has full faith in the judiciary. If Partha Chatterjee is pronounced guilty by the court, the party and the government will take action against him," Ghosh told a press conference here.

The party's reaction came at least nine hours after the ED arrested Chatterjee who was the education minister when the alleged irregularities in the recruitment process took place.

Chatterjee was arrested by the ED after around 26 hours of grilling in his residence in connection with the probe since Friday morning.
