New Delhi: Outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind is set to address the nation on Sunday, a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement issued on Saturday said. According to a report by news agency PTI, his address will be broadcast from 7pm on the entire network of All India Radio and telecast on all channels of Doordarshan in Hindi, followed by the English version, the Rashtrapati Bhavan statement further said.


As per the statement, broadcast of the address in Hindi and English on Doordarshan will be followed by broadcast in regional languages by regional channels of Doordarshan.


It is to be noted that All India Radio will broadcast regional language versions of the outgoing president’s address from 9.30 pm on its regional networks, the statement added.


Notably, Droupadi Murmu was elected to be the next President of India on Thursday, after she comprehensively defeated the joint opposition's presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha.


Murmu will take oath at the Central Hall of Parliament on Monday.


Meanwhile, the farewell ceremony of the outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind took place began at the Parliament on Saturday.


Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla were present at the venue as both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha MPs jointly hosted the farewell for Kovind.


Addressing the event, the outgoing president, as quoted by news agency ANI said, "Five years ago, I took oath as President of India here in Central Hall. All MPs have a special place in my heart."


"Parliament is a temple of democracy and the MPs should always follow Gandhian philosophy while exercising rights of debate and dissent in Parliament," Kovind said.


Extending his greetings to the newly elected president Droupadi Murmu, he said, "I heartily congratulate Droupadi Murmu for being elected as next president. The country will benefit from her guidance."
