As Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee decided to campaign for the upcoming panchayat polls in the state, Bharatiya Janata Party considered it as its “great achievement”. The saffron party claimed that the Trinamool Congress government was feeling that the opposition had grown “really big” and “strong”. The TMC chief will start campaigning for the rural body polls across the state from Monday.

"After 12 years, Mamata Banerjee is coming out for a panchayat election campaign, for BJP, this is a great achievement. After 12 years, Mamata is feeling that her opposition has grown really big and strong that she herself will have to campaign..." said Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar told news agency ANI on Sunday.

These people (Trinamool Congress) were saying after May 2, 2021, (State Assembly election results) that the BJP has gone. But today a leader like Mamta Banerjee has to return to the ground after 12 years for the Panchayat elections, this shows how strong the BJP has become," he added.

Majumdar claimed that during Banerjee’s poll campaigning, the goons, “nurtured” by TMC will cause more violence to intimidate the BJP.

"But we will not be afraid and will give a befitting reply to TMC," he told ANI. Majumdar said that soon TMC will collapse like a house of cards. The panchayat election will be held in a single phase on July 8, with the counting of votes scheduled for July 11.

According to the TMC supremo’s schedule, she will start the campaigning from north Bengal’s Cooch Behar on Monday while further details of the party’s campaigning are yet to be finalised.
