West Bengal Police arrested a 29-year-old on Wednesday for allegedly raping a pregnant cow. Police arrested Pradyut Bhuiya, a resident of North Chandanpidi in the Namkhana block of the South 24 Parganas District, after the owner of the pregnant cow lodged a complaint.

Pradyut Bhuiya's neighbour Aarti Bhuiya filed a complaint about the accused trespassing on their personal property and witnessed him entering the cattle shed. The complainant alleged that their neighbour "brutally raped" one of their cows.

"The cow died due to excessive bleeding after being raped at around midnight," the complainant told local police, reported India Today.

The accused has been charged under Section 377. He was produced before the Kakdwip Sub-Divisional Court and was sent to 14-day judicial custody.

The accused has apparently been a source of frustration for residents of the North Chandanpidi neighbourhood. Locals claim the accused has a history of stealing goats, cars, and even produce from farms.

"There are innumerable allegations against Pradyut. He had earlier stolen goats, vehicles, and vegetables from fields. The man should be punished adequately for his inhumane act," a resident of Chandanpidi village told India Today after he was arrested.

Meanwhile, in a similar case in August, Karnataka police arrested a man on charges of having unnatural sex with cows in Bengaluru.

Chandra Layout Police identified 34-year-old Manjunath, a resident of Gejjalagere village near Maddur town in Mandya district, and arrested him on a complaint by his friend who caught him red-handed.

According to police, the accused had developed the habit of having unnatural sex with cows for which he would travel to Bengaluru University Jnanabharathi campus from his village, as per news agency IANS.
