IG Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that the BDC chairman Bhupinder Singh was a protected person and visited his ancestral home today. He had left two PSOs in police station Khag and left for the ancestral home alone without informing Station House Officer Khag, where he was shot at.
Singh used to stay at Aloochibagh Srinagar and had gone to Khag today. They said that he had contested election independently but was supported by PDP.
Earlier, it was reported that Singh was associated with BJP, however BJP Spokesman Altaf Thakur while condemning the killings said that the slain Sarpanch of Khag, Budgam Bhupinder Singh was not affiliated with BJP but is BDC chairman Khag, Budgam.
Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted, "Very sorry to hear about the assassination of BDC councillor Bhupinder Singh. Mainstream grass root political workers are easy targets for militants & unfortunately in recent years the threat to them has only increased. My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace".
