New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on Saturday said that the police have collected preliminary evidence in the death of two police officers in Bandipora on Friday and are working to identify individuals responsible.
After visiting the family of one of the killed troops, the union territory police head spoke to the media in Sopore.
On Friday, two police officers were slain in a terror assault.
The first clues have arrived, and authorities are investigating them. Those engaged in the crime will be neutralised very soon. We have some first leads, and the police are attempting to identify individuals responsible for the killings, according to the DGP.
He claimed that police officers were being attacked because they protect and work for the wellbeing of the public.
Terrorists and Pakistani elements sense this agony, and when someone stands in the way of locals and terrorists, they become upset, Singh explained.
"Police work for the safety of people from terrorists. Police with our forces from the Army, BSF and the CRPF jointly keep the terrorists at distance. This is their (terrorists') desperation, and it is because of this, the killing takes place. We will respond to them," Singh was quoted by PTI in its report.
He stated that the J-K police have been waging this battle for the past 30 years and that it is our job to safeguard people's lives and property.
When asked about the presence of militants in north Kashmir, he stated that Pakistan has recently conducted incursions in various areas, during which some Pakistani ultras had infiltrated to our side.
