Soon after the incident, a manhunt was launched and the police has successfully arrested both. Haryana CM ML Khattar has assured justice saying, "The culprit in the Ballabhgarh incident has been arrested. Strict action will be taken against the culprit."
As per the latest development in the case, now Congress connection of the accused has surfaced. As per the sources, accused Touseef is the son of Zakir, uncle of Aftab Ahmed, Congress MLA from Nuh. Touseef's late grandfather Kabir Ahmed was a former Congress MLA from Tawadu while his late Uncle Khurshid Ahmad was the Finance, Education Minister and MP of Haryana.
Speaking to the ABP News, Touseef's Uncle Javed expressed grief over victim's demise and said, "Touseef and the girl both are young and have studied together in the past. But the allegations of conversion and love jihad are wrong and baseless. Those talking love jihad is nothing but cheap mentality to build pressure. The police is investigating the case and whoever is at fault, will be in front of everyone."

Javed also reveled about their political background and connection with the grand-old Congress party. "We have all progressed on the basis of religion and caste. My father Kabir Ahmed has been an MLA twice, one of my brother is also an MLA and my nephew Aftab Ahmed is currently an MLA, who has also served as the Transport Minister in the Congress Government," Touseef's Uncle Javed said.
The 21-year-old B.Com final year student Nikita was shot dead in a brazen act after appearing for an exam on Monday. The family members of the girl have alleged that Touseef pressurized her to convert to Islam and upon denying, he tried to abduct her. On being unable to capture her, he shot her dead. The victim had reportedly also filed a complaint against the accused few years ago.
