The woman whose body was found on the Yamuna Expressway has been identified as 21-year-old Delhi resident Ayushi Yadav. Police suspect that it was a case of honour killing and have arrested her father Nitesh and her mother. The murder weapon has also been recovered.

Sources in Ayushi’s family said that she had gone out for a few days without informing her parents. According to the police, Ayushi had married a man of her choice. This enraged her father and Nitesh shot her in a fit of rage when she returned home on November 17.

She was shot dead at Modband village house under the Badarpur police’s jurisdiction. Police hasn’t revealed where she had gone. After committing the murder Nitesh allegedly packed the body in a trolley and dumped it on the Raya service road along the Yamuna Expressway. The body was found wrapped in polythene.

The trolley was first spotted by some labourers working in the nearby field.

“Ayushi's mother and brother knew that her father had killed her,” acting Senior SP Martand Prakash Singh said. The parents killed their daughter as she married a man of her choice. A licensed weapon that was used for the murder has been recovered, he said.

Police put up posters in Delhi, traced phones, and scanned CCTV footage to identify Ayusi after the trolley was found. Her identity was revealed by an anonymous caller. Later her mother and brother confirmed her identity.

Ayushi’s family hails from Baluni in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur. They migrated to Delhi after Nitesh Yadav found a job there. Ayushi was a student of Bachelor of Computer Applications.

This incident comes close on the heels of the gruesome murder of Shraddha Walkar, who was killed by her live-in partner Aftab Poonawalla in May this year. As per reports, he allegedly killed her and chopped her body into 34 pieces that he disposed of across Delhi over several days.
