In May, Vishakapatnam was witness to one of the deadliest gas leaks since the Bhopal gas tragedy of 1984. Styrene gas had leaked from LG Polymers factory located on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh in the early morning hours. The leak left almost eight dead and more than hundred were hospitalised.
The styrene gas, also known as PVC gas, affected several areas, including RRV Puram, Venkatapuram, BC Colony, Padmapuram, and Kamparapalem. The gas leak brought back memories of the Bhopal gas tragedy, which took place more than 35 years ago, killing thousands of people.
