Aviation Minister Scindia Meets Chiefs Of Indian Carriers, Asks To Ramp Up Safety Oversight: Report

According to the sources, Scindia instructed each airline to take all necessary efforts to increase safety monitoring.

Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia met with the Chiefs of Indian airlines on Monday and asked them to increase safety control, as per the sources, news agency PTI reported.

Several mechanical malfunctions have occurred in Indian carriers' flights during the previous month. According to the sources, Scindia instructed each airline to take all necessary efforts to increase safety monitoring.

Scindia met with senior officials from his ministry and the civil aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, on Sunday to discuss safety problems (DGCA).

During the meeting on Sunday, the minister received a thorough report from authorities on the accidents that occurred in the previous month and informed them that there should be no compromise on passenger safety.

IndiGo's Sharjah-Hyderabad flight was diverted to Karachi on Sunday as a precautionary measure after pilots discovered a flaw in one of the engines.

The Air India Express aircraft from Calicut to Dubai was diverted to Muscat on Saturday night after a burning smell was detected in the cabin mid-flight.

A live bird was discovered in the cockpit of an Air India Express aircraft from Bahrain to Kochi the day before.

SpiceJet is now under regulatory scrutiny. The DGCA issued a show-cause notice to SpiceJet on July 6 in response to at least eight incidences of mechanical breakdown in its aircraft since June 19.

All of these events are now being investigated by the DGCA.
