Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid homage to former PM and stalwart leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his fifth death anniversary. Remembering the veteran politician, the PM said India benefitted greatly from Vajpayee's leadership and he played a pivotal role in boosting the country's progress. Notably, ex-PM Vajpayee breathed his last on August 16, 2018. President Dorupadi Murmu paid floral tributes at his Samadhi 'Sadaiv Atal' in New Delhi. 


"I join the 140 crore people of India in paying homage to the remarkable Atal Ji on his Punya Tithi. India benefitted greatly from his leadership. He played a pivotal role in boosting our nation's progress and in taking it to the 21st century in a wide range of sectors," PM Modi tweeted.






"President Droupadi Murmu paid homage to former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his death anniversary, at his Samadhi, 'Sadaiv Atal' in New Delhi," a tweet from the official handle of the President of India read.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid floral tributes at 'Sadaiv Atal' memorial to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his death anniversary.






Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also paid floral tribute at 'Sadaiv Atal' memorial.


Speaking on the death anniversary of former PM, Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje called Vajpayee an inspiration for everyone.


"We have reached here due to him. He inspired the entire country. How to run the Govt and bring everyone together - he taught us that...We are walking on his path. It is sad that he is not with us anymore but his inspiration and blessings are with us," she added.






Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said, "...This is not a place for me to make comments on any political issue. But the biggest enemies of India's politics, biggest enemies of India's democracy - appeasement, dynasty and corruption should definitely leave from India's politics."


Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee ruled crores of hearts. "Several generations were inspired by him...," he added.






"BJP-led NDA, under the leadership of PM Modi, has seen an increase in the number of allies. We are working with them. We will contest the election together and make PM Modi win...When he gets the opportunity for the third time in 2024, we will bring a wave of development across the country," he further said.
