New Delhi: A senior official of the Assam government was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 90,000 on Saturday. According to police, ACS KK Sharma, the joint secretary to Government of Assam was caught red-handed and arrested while he was accepting Rs 90,000 from the complainant for renewal of security firm license.
Later, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption searched his residence and recovered unaccounted cash of Rs. 49 lakh.
Taking to Twitter, Special Director-General of Police (V&AC) Gyanendra Pratap Singh wrote, “In a late evening Ops, @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed and arrested Sri KK Sharma ACS Joint Secretary to Govt of Assam after accepting INR 90k from complainant for renewal of security firm license.”
In similar incident earlier, Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption searched District Transport Office and residence of Sanjib Hazarika DTO Dibrugarh on October 21 and recovered unaccounted cash of Rs 7,03,800 and Rs 87,000 demonetized notes, according to reports.
The Assam government has continued its war on corruption, led by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption under GP Singh, Special DGP. It is to be noted that a total of 41 cases from May 10, 2021 to October 19, 2022 were registered and overall, 40 cases till October 19, 2022 have been filed.
“Getting trap cases registered by Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department is a mandatory responsibility. Our Officers have worked hard on this aspect as well,” wrote Special DGP G P Singh on Twitter.
