Dispur: At least seven terrorists belonging to the rebel outfit National Liberation Army (DNLA) were neutralised in a joint operation of Assam Police and Assam Rifles in West Karbi Anglong district, along the Assam-Nagaland border, on Sunday.


According to a news report by ANI, A huge cache of arms and ammunition, including four AK-47 rifles, has also been recovered from the possession of slain terrorists, said the Assam police, while the operation is still underway as more DNLA terrorists expected in the face-off area.

"Seven DNLA terrorists were killed during an encounter with Assam Police in Karbi Anglong. Three AK-47, arms & ammunition recovered from the spot. As per the information, two of their leaders were injured during the encounter": Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.


Based on the intelligence inputs, a joint operation was launched in the district by a team of police officers and Assam Rifles personnel, led by West Karbi Anglong Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Prakash Sonowal, PTI quoted the police officer as saying.


On May 19, DNLA cadres killed a youth at Dhansiri in Assam-Nagaland border.


Following the incident, security forces had launched a massive counter-insurgency operation against the insurgent group.
