Rajnath Singh Announces Cash Prizes For Asian Games Medallists From Armed Forces

According to Rajnath Singh's announcement, the Gold medallists will get Rs 25 lakhs each, Silver medallists will get Rs 15 lakhs each and the Bronze medallists will get Rs 10 lakhs each.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that the Indian Armed Forces personnel who won medals in the Asian Games 2023 will be awarded cash prizes. Those who won Gold medals will get Rs 25 lakhs each, Silver medallists will get Rs 15 lakhs and the Bronze medallists will get a prize of Rs 10 lakhs each. The Union Minister made this announcement while interacting with the Asian Games Medal Winners of India's Armed Forces.

Singh said, "All of you are the sons of Indian soil, who have made all Indians proud with your performance in the Asian Games. This performance of all of you is not only a symbol of a new and strong India but also of a rapidly growing India."

"Although bringing pride to the country by bringing a medal is the best award in itself, yet on behalf of the Defense Ministry family, I would like to announce that all the Gold medal winners will be given Rs 25 lakh, Silver medal winners will be given Rs 15 lakh and Bronze medal winners will be given Rs 25 lakh. Medal winners will be given Rs 10 lakh," he added.

During the address, the Defence Minister mentioned that "In this year's Asian Games, we have won a total of 107 medals. Last time, in the 2018 Asian Games, we had won 70 medals. If we look at this journey from 70 medals to 107 medals in terms of growth, we have seen an increase of about 50 per cent."

Recalling PT Usha's contribution to India's medal tally at the Asian Games 1986, he said, "Even today, we Indians do not forget how India had won a total of five gold medals in the 1986 Asian Games, and out of those five, four gold medals were won by our flying angel PT Usha ji alone. In this context, I would like to say that by nominating PT Usha ji to the Rajya Sabha, our Prime Minister gave her the place she deserved."

"I see that in all the results in the field of sports, the people of our army also perform very well. When I think about this, I feel that this happens because the character of the soldier is such. I also say this many times, that within a soldier there is a player, and within a player there is definitely a soldier," He further remarked.
