"He has been put on ventilator support and his condition is stated to be stable," a source said as reported by news agency PTI.

According to sources at the Jodhpur Central Jail, Asaram's samples were taken along with other inmates for testing, and his report came out positive two days back. After this, his treatment was started.

"On Wednesday night, his condition deteriorated as he complained of fever and short-breath. We rushed him to the MG Hospital in the night itself," a jail official said.

Previously, Asaram requested that he be granted bail on health grounds, filing several court affidavits stating that he suffers from multiple ailments.

Meanwhile, his followers gathered outside the MG Hospital in large numbers as the news of his hospitalisation spread around. Some of them even demanded that he be admitted to the AIIMS, but the hospital administration has clarified that there was no such need.

They followers are also demanding that the hospital administration and police share his health details with them. Reportedly, some of them even tried to sneak into the hospital to be able to get a glimpse of the "godman", but police personnel foiled their attempts.

Afterward, two of his female followers were detained for constantly trying to dodge the police, and were taken to the police station. Police have also seized some of the vehicles of Asaram's followers while they stayed put waiting for an opportunity to sneak in.
