ED Claims Arvind Kejriwal Eating Mangoes To Increase Blood Sugar Level To Get Bail, Court Seeks Report

The Enforcement Directorate told a Delhi court that Arvind Kejriwal was deliberately eating mangoes and taking tea with sugar to raise his blood sugar level and use that as a ground to get bail.

The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday told a Delhi court that Arvind Kejriwal was deliberately eating mangoes, sweets and taking tea with sugar to raise his blood sugar level and use that as a ground to get bail on medical grounds. The Delhi court asked Tihar Jail authorities to give details of the diet chart of the Aam Aadmi Party national convenor.

Counsel appearing for ED, Zoheb Hossain submitted before a bench of Special Judge Kaveri Baweja that in the guise of home-cooked food, Kejriwal was taking a diet that would raise his blood sugar level.

The court was hearing a plea by Kejriwal for regular check-ups of his sugar level and consultation with his doctor through video conference.

Hossain told the court that these details surfaced after the probe agency sought details from Tihar jail about Kejriwal's diet and the medicines he is taking.

Advocate Vivek Jain, appearing for Kejriwal, told the court that ED's lawyer was playing gallery for the media. Jain ultimately withdrew his plea and said he would file a "better one." His lawyers had informed the court that Kejriwal's sugar level was continuously fluctuating. 

Jain while interacting with media outside the court said that the ED is making an issue to stop home-cooked food for Kejriwal. 

Kejriwal is currently under judicial custody in Tihar jail in connection with the money laundering probe related to Delhi Liquor Policy case. Earlier, the Delhi High Court rejected his petition challenging his arrest and the Delhi court extended his judicial custody. Kejriwal has challenged Delhi High Court order in the Supreme Court. 

The high court found that ED was in possession of enough material which had led them to arrest the Delhi CM. The court said that by skipping summons Kejriwal caused delay in investigation and also impacted those in judicial custody in the case. The court said that the material collected by ED reveals that Arvind Kejriwal conspired and was actively involved in use and concealment of proceeds of crime.

The ED has alleged that Kejriwal was the key conspirator behind the alleged money laundering in the now scrapped Delhi Liquor Policy.
