Former Wrestling Federation of India chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Thursday moved an application in the court seeking further investigation into the sexual harassment allegations against him by six female wrestlers, claiming that he was out of India on the date of alleged offence. The Delhi court reserved its verdict after Singh moved the application.
The court is likely to pronounce on April 26 its order on whether to frame charges against Bhushan in the case.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Priyanka Rajpoot presided over the case.
Counsel appearing for Singh in the court said that the Delhi Police relied on the call detail records (CDR) of the coach who had accompanied the complainant and stated that they had gone to WFI office on September 7, 2022, where she was allegedly molested.
Singh's lawyer pointed out that CDR has not been placed on record by the police. He prayed that the court direct Delhi Police to investigate the issue.
The court orally remarked that the application amounts to further investigation. In his application, Singh argued that he was not in Delhi on September 7, 2022 when one of the wrestlers alleges molestation.
Singh has sought an investigate that the allegations that he was in the WFI office on that day. He also sought a copy of the CDR.
However, the public prosecutor appearing against Singh said that the application was merely a delay tactic being used by the defence.
On June 15, the Delhi police filed a charge sheet in the case against BJP leader and six-time MP Singh. He has been accused under various sections of IPC for assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty, sexual harassment, stalking, criminal intimidation.
