Arvind Kejriwal Files Petition In Supreme Court Against Delhi High Court's Stay On Bail
The Delhi High Court on Friday had put an interim stay on the bail granted to Kejriwal by a trial court in a money-laundering case linked to the now-scrapped excise policy of his government.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding the stay imposed on his bail by the Delhi High Court.
The Aam Aadmi Party said that Arvind Kejriwal's lawyers have appealed for a hearing on Monday morning.
The Delhi High Court on Friday had put an interim stay on the bail granted to Kejriwal by a trial court in a money-laundering case linked to the now-scrapped excise policy of his government.
Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21, could have walked out of Tihar Jail on Friday had the high court not granted the interim relief to the federal anti-money laundering agency.
The high court said it was reserving the order for two-three days as it wanted to go through the entire case records. It also issued a notice to Kejriwal seeking his response to the ED's plea challenging the trial court's June 20 order by which he was granted bail. The court had listed the plea for hearing on July 10.
In its bail order, the trial court had held that prima facie, Kejriwal's guilt was yet to be established and that the ED had failed to furnish direct evidence linking him to the proceeds of crime in the money-laundering case.The excise policy was scrapped in 2022 after the Delhi lieutenant governor ordered a CBI probe into alleged irregularities and corruption involving its formulation and execution.
The AAP national convenor had sought an extension of his interim bail granted by the Supreme Court by another week after June 2 to get the tests conducted. The SC, which had granted bail to Kejriwal for 21 days to campaign for the Lok Sabha polls, had refused to extend it further.
