Kolkata, Jul 2: Amid the burgeoning Covid-19 cases in India that have shaken the common man, an Indian Army Brigadier posted at the Eastern Command headquarters succumbed to the deadly virus on Thursday in Kolkata. Brigadier Vikas Samyal was posted at Fort William and was detected with Covid-19. Brig Samyal succumbed to the disease on Thursday morning, after a long struggle. According to our sources, even Plasma therapy could not save him. He is survived by a wife and two daughters, who are recovering from the same infection.

Brigadier was admitted to the Army's Command Hospital at Alipur where he was on a ventilator towards the end. Officials are trying to find out who all came in contact with Sanyal and his family in the past few days.

In May, the Army’s Base Hospital in Delhi Cantonment had extended its medical facilities to Delhi Police after the latter requested for admitting Covid-19 personnel in the force.

India witnessed over 19,000 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, keeping up this week’s streak of recording over 18k fresh cases daily. The total number of fatalities reported in the last 24 hours remained above 400. With this, the overall cases in India have jumped over 6 lakh-mark.
