Angry fans lash out after loss against Pakistan: Burn player photos, break TVs

If there was shock at India's performance, there was awe at the manner in which Pakistan took to the Champions Trophy final.

NEW DELHI: Soon after Pakistan maul India by 180 runs to lift the Champions Trophy on Sunday, displeased Indian fans took to streets to express their angst. While some fans broke television sets and burned players’ posters, security was beefed up at MS Dhoni’s residence in Ranchi to quell attempts of any untoward incidents. Some heart-broken fans responded with anger and even cried when questioned on India's poor show in the final. Fans in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur and Uttarkhand's Haridwar broke their TV sets and protested after Pakistan's win. Security personnel were deployed outside MS Dhoni's residence in Ranchi to counter stone-pelting by angry fans. While  Massive traffic jams were witnessed in Karachi as people came out on the roads in their cars and motorcycles to celebrate Pakistan's victory, Infuriated Indian fans burned posters of Virat Kohli, Ashwin, Yuvraj Singh and others in Kanpur. Meanwhile, youths across Kashmir Valley burst into rapture as Pakistan defeated India in a one-sided clash. At most places the celebrating youths kept bursting firecrackers and dancing on the streets in Farah Kadal and Sekidafar areas of old city in Srinagar. Some exuberant youths threw firecrackers inside a CRPF camp and the local police station. Even women took to streets at many places in the Valley singing to express joy at Pakistan's victory against the defending champions. The outcome resulted in different emotions, even leading to a scuffle between the India and Pakistan fans at the Sir Jack Hobbs gate in London, but the law-enforcers intervened to avert anything more ugly. Thrashed by India in the opening match for both teams, Pakistan inflicted an even bigger defeat in the final. Chasing a challenging total of 339 runs, India bowed down before the Pakistani bowlers and got all out for mere 158 runs in 33.3 overs. While Sarfraz could hardly contain himself, India captain Virat Kohli was gracious despite the margin being an embarrassing (and unbelievable) 180 runs.
