Union Home Minister Amit Shah tabled The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 or popularly called the Delhi Services Bill in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. After the proceedings of the house resumed at 2 pm, the Home Minster presented the bill which has been allotted a total of six hours for the debate. As soon as the Home Minister tabled the Delhi Services Bill, it was met with vociferous opposition.

Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi during the discussion over the bill in the House said: "BJP's approach is to control by hook or crook…this bill is completely unconstitutional, it is fundamentally anti-democratic, and it is a front-term assault on the regional voice and aspirations of the people of Delhi. It violates all principles of federalism, all norms of civil service accountability and all models of assembly-based democracy."


BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Delhi Services Bill debate in Rajya Sabha said: "In the Supreme Court verdict of 105 pages, nowhere it is mentioned anything against passing a law on Delhi,…In the Supreme Court order, in paragraphs 86, 95 and 164 F, it is mentioned that the Parliament has all the rights to form law for Delhi."


AAP MP Raghav Chadha during the discussion on the Delhi services bill in Rajya Sabha said: "Delhi services bill is a political fraud, constitutional sin and will create an administrative logjam."
