Amethi: A daughter in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi has alleged that her mother was beaten up and raped by the doctors and medical staff at a hospital in the state capital from where she was discharged a day before her demise.

The family members of the 40-year-old deceased said that she breathed her last on June 12 night while being taken to another hospital in Lucknow.

She said her unwell mother, who was admitted to the Amethi Joint District Hospital in Gauriganj on June 6, was referred to Lucknow’s Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences the next day after her health condition deteriorated.

Alleging that her mother was initially kept in the Lucknow hospital’s emergency ward and later shifted to a bed on the fourth floor, the daughter said no family members were, however, allowed to visit her.

She claimed that she found her mother’s health condition critical when she was permitted to meet her after repeated requests.

A spokesman of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Sansthan, on the other hand, rubbished the allegations.

“No such allegation of rape of a woman has been reported and no complaint has been received. If there is a complaint, an inquiry will be conducted,” PTI quoted the spokesperson as saying.

The daughter said that she approached Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani during her visit to her parliamentary constituency Amethi as the police did not pay any attention to her complaint.

Irani later spoke to Amethi District Magistrate Arun Kumar, Superintendent of Police Dinesh Singh and the chief medical officer of Amethi on the girl’s complaint.

The District Magistrate, who has constituted an inquiry committee on Irani’s instructions to probe the allegations, said action will be taken against those guilty after submission of the report.
