According to the sources, South District DCP Atul Thakur said that the case came to light when the victim approached police in March to file a complaint against the accused for cheating on the pretext of marriage and looting her with Rs 34 lakh.
According to the statement given by the complainant, she had received a friend request on Facebook two years ago on March 1, 2018. Initially she ignored but after verifying the account with mutual friends, she later accepted the requested sent by Mohammad Sadiq. The duo started chatting online on Facebook and eventually exchanged numbers to talk on phone calls.

Accused then came to Delhi to visit the woman. The two started meeting up quite often after a good friendship was established between then. As per the plan, the accused Sadiq took the woman for a vacation in Ladakh where he proposed her for marriage.
Soon after, Sadiq proposed a plan of investing in a hotel business for their secured future. He requested the woman for financial assistance. Falling into his trap, the victim transferred Rs 34 lakh into his account.

After receiving the money, the accused man started avoiding messages and phone calls from the woman. On realizing that she has been cheated by the Sadiq on the pretext of marriage promise, she approached police in Delhi for help.
During the investigation, it was found that the accused is a resident of Vijay Wada in Andhra Pradesh. A team of cops was sent there to arrest the man under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code. Sadiq is in police custody right now for further investigation while the looted money is yet to be recovered from him.
