New Delhi: In a shocking incident, twenty-nine people were killed and 18 injured after a Lucknow-Delhi state-run bus skidded off the Yamuna Expressway and fell into a large drain around 4:30 am in Etmadpur this morning.

The operation to pull out the mangled remains of the bus from the bottom of the 20-foot-high bridge took several hours, with two excavators and a crane being deployed for the salvage exercise. The injured have been admitted to different hospitals, including a private health facility, in the district, the officials said, reported PTI.

Reports suggest that the bus went plunging into a nullah as the driver dozed off and lost control of the vehicle.

As per sources, the bus belonged to Awadh Depot of UP roadways.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also took cognizance of the accident and expressed his grief and condolences over the incident. He also directed DM and SSP to provide all possible medical attention to the injured.







The UP government also announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased.

Rescue operation is underway. More details on the same are awaited.
