New Delhi: In solidarity with the youths protesting the center's newly announced Agnipath scheme for recruitment in the armed forces, Congress will hold a 'Satyagraha' protest led by party MLAs, MPs & leaders on 27th June, said Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal on Wednesday. "Continuing our uncompromising fight against the precarious #AgnipathScheme, @INCIndia will observe a peaceful Satyagraha led by MLAs, MPs & Leaders on Monday, the 27th June, from 10 am to 1 pm at all assembly constituencies in their respective states," said Venugopal.

Terming the new 'Agneepath' scheme of short-term recruitment in the army as a new betrayal of the Modi government to the country and the army, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have to withdraw the scheme.

“The spine of the country — small and medium industries — has been broken by the Modi government. I say to all those who train in the morning to get into the Army, Navy and Air force that the prime minister has broken the spine of the country and this country will not be able to give jobs to its youth,” the former Congress chief said.

“No matter what the government does, it will not be able to give jobs as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has handed the country to two-three industrialists who cannot ensure jobs to the youth,” Gandhi said.

He thanked the Congress leaders and workers for expressing solidarity during the Enforcement Directorate's five-day-long interrogation of them in the alleged money laundering case related to the 'National Herald' newspaper and said that Congress leaders and workers were intimidated and threatened.
