New Delhi: Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Zubin Irani on Saturday participated in the ABP News special program 'ABP Shakti Samman', which aimed at celebrating womanhood ahead of International Women's Day 2020. While speaking to ABP News' Shobha Yadav in an interactive session, Irani spoke on a range of issues pertaining to women and their achievements over the recent past.

Starting with the victory in the Lok Sabha elections, when BJP leader Smriti Irani created history by defeating Rahul Gandhi and conquering the Congress bastion of nearly four decades, she was asked about how she sees this achievement that made her victory the biggest upset of modern-day Indian politics. Irani said that her victory was not against a man, but dynastic politics. "In Amethi, I defeated a subject, not a person. Defeated the idea of dynastic politics," Irani said.

Further, from the platform of ABP Shakti Samman, the Union Minister urged the women of the country to recognise the hidden power and talent that lies within them so that they can reach heights and achieve what they believe in. Talking about the issues that a woman faces in her daily life, Irani said not men, but the mindset is the problem of the society, which hinders the progress of a woman.

To the question when Irani was asked that what does it takes for a woman to be like her, she assertively replied that we do not need a prototype, as every woman is capable enough and has her own strengths. "If a woman gets an equal opportunity on the basis of her talent, she always wins," Irani said.

While speaking about another powerful woman that we have in the society, Irani lauded Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi, whose daughter was gang-raped and murdered in December 2012, and who struggled for last seven-year to get the convicts hanged. "I haven't waited so eagerly for someone's death in my life," Irani said. She also credited Asha Devi for being one such woman who can be called as a successful mother.

On the participation and performance of women in the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests, Irani said she has no objection with women being the torchbearers of the protest, but she objects the fact they are just being used as a pawn for political interest.
