In the recently held state Assembly elections, farm loan waiver turned out to a major factor in deciding the fate of political parties. The dismal state of farmers affected by the unpredictability of monsoons has been a critical issue which has led to anti-incumbency among the farmer class across India. The BJP which ruled the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh for more than two decades suffered a spree of defeats largely attributed to the growing discontentment of the farmers against the lackadaisical attitude of the government. With the elections just three months away, most of the political pundits are expecting the Modi-led BJP govt to doll out a populist interim budget centred around farmer's loan waiver.

The ABP-CVoter which was carried out to gauge the mood of the voters  in all the states covering the 543 Lok Sabha constituencies threw a question to the respondents as to whether a nationwide farmer loan waiver will be a game changer in favour of BJP in upcoming Lok Sabha elections

Here are the results after collecting the response of the voters across India

  • Dont Know / Cant Say - 4.8%

  • Yes, to a great extent - 57.5%

  • Yes, but will only help them - 17.4%

  • No, it will not help them at all - 20.4%

As per the results of the survey, the farm loan waiver can be a significant game-changer for the BJP according to most respondents barring the Southern region.
