Kolkata: Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Road on August 15, 2021, West Bengal is gearing up with 9 tableaus depicting schemes and achievements from 9 of its departments. Out of all the ones being constructed, 2 tableaus will take centre front on the D-Day procession at the Red Road.

The two prime tableaus to grace the occasion would be the Sports tableau with a focus on "Khela Hobe Divas" and another on the newly-introduced scheme by the state Government, Lakshmir Bhandar.

This year, for the formal procession at Red Road on the morning of 15th August, Bengal Govt. is gearing for 9 tableaus representing 9 departments in the programmes. However, two tableaus will be centrepieces in the entire event.

The Youth Welfare and Sports Department of the state government will be displaying a huge banner in its tableau on which "Khela Hobe Diwas" will be mentioned alongside pictures of footballs to kickstart the football competition that will take place on the selected day.

Trinamool Congress, after coming to power for the third consecutive time in the state, had previously announced "Khela Hobe Diwas", following the popularity of the party's campaign slogan used in the recent state assembly elections. To be celebrated one day after Independence Day, on 16th August, "Khela Hobe Diwas" will be observed by the distribution of locally made footballs to encourage sports in areas of Bengal. Banerjee's choice of date however has been questioned by the opposition in the state, primely BJP accusing her of deliberately selecting it despite knowing its communal connotations.

The second tableau to garner attention on the day will be the recently launched social benefits scheme, "Lakshmir Bhandar". This is the newest women-centric social welfare scheme that Banerjee and her government have undertaken following the previously made ones like Rupashree and Kanyashree and will focus to distribute money of amounts 500-1000 to all women in the state barring some categories, to boost female financial independence.

The tableau will consist of 3D models like banks, and a huge earthen pot which is associated with the Hindu Goddess of Prosperity and Wealth, Lakshmi. Through huge pictures of women as mothers, sisters, and daughters, the women vote bank will be brought to the fore as CM Mamata Banerjee will hoist the flag as the elected Chief Minister of the state for the third consecutive time.

With the final day only three days away, the tableaus are being constructed throughout the day and night for the work to finish soon. To be immune against the rain, the tableaus are being constructed in the shade of a massive shed constructed by bamboos and tarpaulin.

This year, India will complete 74 years of Independence since the end of Imperial rule. This will be the step into its 75th year.
