New Delhi: India sees biggest spike in COVID-19 as 6,767 new patients were reported in a single day. This is the third consecutive day that India has reported more than 6,000 COVID-19 cases with a record number of new patients each day. The total number infected cases in the nation surges to 1,31,868 cases, according to Union Health Ministry.


147 people have lost their lives in the last 24 hours which takes the death toll in the country to 3,867. The total number of active cases in the country is at 73,560 while 54,440 people have recovered from the disease.

On Sunday, there were 54,440 recoveries against 51,783 from Saturday taking the recovery rate 41.28%.

Maharashtra remain the worst affected and has reported 47,190 Covid-19 cases, with Mumbai accounting for 28,817 infections, and 1,577 deaths so far. Tamil Nadu has 15,512 cases of the coronavirus disease and 103 deaths and Gujarat has 13,664 infections but a higher number of deaths at 829.

Delhi’s tally stands at 12,910 and death toll at 231. The deaths put the mortality rate of the disease in the national capital at about 1.8%, up from 1% on May 11. The rate remains lower than the national average of 3%.

The global number of novel coronavirus cases has passed 5.25 million with more than 339,000 deaths. Since the outbreak first emerged in China in December, 5,260,970 cases have been recorded across 196 countries and territories, with 339,758 deaths attributed to the virus. USA has become the worst hit nation by the novel coronavirus with 1,666,828 cases in the country.
