Mumbai: Another shocking case of rape was reported in the financial capital of the country wherein a 19-year-old girl was gang-raped at Bandstand in Bandra (west) on May 12. After the matter came to light, Mumbai Police has registered a case and arrested the three accused. 


The case has been registered under Sec 376(D) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Bandra Police Station. Court has sent the accused to police custody till May 19, Mumbai Police informed.

According to information received from the Bandra Police, the incident took place on the evening of May 12. The victim had gone to Bandstand to meet her friend.


The two accused were behind her and soon after, the third culprit arrived at the venue and then the incident took place.


The accused are reported to have taken the victim to their home. The victim managed to run away from their residence on May 13 and filed a case in Shivaji Nagar police station.


"A case of gang rape with a 19-year-old girl has come to light in the Bandra area of Mumbai. The police have registered a case under Section 376 (D) of the IPC on the basis of the statement of the victim and have initiated further investigation. All the three accused are held and were produced in the Court. The accused will stay in police custody till May 19," the police stated.


The notice informed that since the incident took place in Bandra's Bandstand, the case was transferred from Shivaji Nagar Police Station to Bandra Police Station. Further probe is underway.
