Hyundai Teases Upcoming Maruti Vitara Brezza Rival; QXi To Get Sunroof, DRLs
The Korean sub-compact SUV will be positioned lower than the Creta; to get both petrol and diesel engines
New front end design on the QXi seems inspired by the Kona compact SUV
Expected to debut a new powertrain with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine
Likely to be offered with a choice of 1.4-litre petrol and diesel engines too
Likely to launch in first half of 2019 with a starting price of around Rs 8 lakh
Will rival the likes of the Vitara Brezza, EcoSport, XUV300, WR-V and Nexon
In what is the first of a new video series, Hyundai India has teased the upcoming sub-compact SUV codenamed QXi. The clip did reveal some features and design elements even though the car was completely covered in camouflage. At present, it is possible that the production car may be called the Styx but no official name has been announced yet.
The test mule shown has the headlamps with rectangular DRLs around them positioned on the front bumper with slim indicators on the edges of the bonnet. The front-end design appears to be quite like the Hyundai Kona. It also gets a sunroof which is likely to be offered in the top-spec variant. In the sub-4m SUV segment, the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and Honda WR-V are the others that offer a sunroof.
Some of the other premium features expected on the top-spec QXi include wireless smartphone charging, cruise control, automatic climate control and a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. More features and other design elements are likely to be revealed in the coming days.
The QXi is also expected to debut Hyundai’s 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine in India which is available in its global models and in Kia’s too. In those models, this unit is tuned to produce 120PS of power and 170Nm of torque. Besides the new engine, Hyundai is also expected to equip the QXi with 1.4-litre petrol and diesel engines that are already found in their current lineup like the Verna and the Creta. In the case of an automatic variant, Hyundai is likely to offer a dual clutch transmission.
With a likely starting price of around Rs 8 lakh, the Hyundai QXi is expected to launch soon, perhaps in April-May of 2019. The Korean sub-4m SUV will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Honda WR-V, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport.
