Honda prices to increase by Rs 1000 as BS-IV kicks in
New Delhi: Come 2017, the Government of India is all set to set BS-IV (Bharat Stage IV) norms for all two-wheelers in India. So, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) suggests that prices of its motorcycles and scooters will be hiked by Rs. 400 to Rs. 1,000.
"We will update all our models in 2017 as per BSIV norms. With that there will be price hike also in the range of Rs 400 to Rs 1000 depending upon on which segment that model is available,” said Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, HMSI, commenting on the expected price hike. However, the Honda also clarified that motorcycles will have a higher price hike than scooters, which will also be limited to a maximum of Rs. 1,000.
When BS-IV compliance turns mandatory, Honda will have made all of its models BSIV compliant, just as it already made the CB Hornet 160R compliant to the new norms already, last year. The Honda will also accomplish this task through its readiness for the festive season, as it has already reached its peak capacity at its Gujarat plant.
The Gujarat HMSI facility boasts of an annual capacity of 12 lakhs, though only scooters are made in the plant. The Honda currently targets 1 million sales in the first six months of the current fiscal, while it also registered strong growth of over 21 percent targeting an overall growth of 22 percent in the current financial year.
