New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has promised that if elected to power, his government will provide case assistance of Rs 1,000 to every woman above 18 years of age, reported ANI.
Speaking at an event in Navelim, Kejriwal said, “Griha Aadhar benefit for women will be increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500 per month. Rs 1,000 will be given to every female over 18 years. This is the biggest and the most effective women empowerment programme in the world.”
He further said that if leaders can get freebies then people getting freebies is there right. "They say Kejriwal is giving 'freebies'. Till date, only Ministers used to get freebies on taxpayers' money. What leaders are getting is a freebie, what people are getting is their right," he said.
Currently ruled by BJP, Goa will undergo assembly elections in the year 2022 where the Aam Aadmi Party has announced to contest on all 40 seats. Apart from Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress, Trinamool Congress and Shiv Sena and other parties will also be contesting the election.
The promise of Rs 1,000 cash assistance to women above 18 years of age has been made by Kejriwal in Punjab, where state elections too are scheduled to happen next year.
Recently Goa Forward Party Vijay Sardesai had announced alliance with the Congress party for the upcoming elections. Earlier the GFP was the partner of the BJP-led government in the state.
Currently BJP has 17 MLAs in the Goa Assembly and has support of three MLAs from Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and GFP and three independent MLAs. The Congress on the other hand has 15 MLAs in the house.
