Beijing: Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi is reportedly working on a smartphone that will have a stunning 144MP camera sensor.

According to recent reports by GizmoChina, Xiaomi's upcoming offering is a 144MP camera smartphone and it could be named Mi 10S Pro or the Mi CC10 Pro.

This is not that first time that Xiaomi is trying to push the envelope with its camera capability. The Smartphone manufacturer was one of the first to launch a phone with a 48MP camera with its Redmi Note 7, and then with Redmi Note 8 Pro it brought a 64MP sensor in 2019. The same year, the company also unveiled the Mi CC9 Pro featuring a 108MP sensor.

Samsung was previously reported to be working on a 144MP sensor and it could be used to give the upcoming Xiaomi phone the required capability.

Even though, there is no official confirmation on the same. Xiaomi's record in launching phones with high-megapixel image sensors & rising as a pioneer in the space, makes the rumor believable.

Higher number of pixels, however, do not guarantee a better camera. Apple's iPhone and the Google Pixel have managed to bust the popular notion by featuring a humble pixel count & camera setup, boosted by their strong & capable image sensors. So, it will be interesting to see if Xiaomi's rumored next with 144MP camera, which is also likely to be a flagship, succeed in making a real impact.
