NEW DELHI: The BJP’s Central Election Committee, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, met on Friday at the party headquarters in Delhi. For the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah and other prominent leaders were seen at the party headquarters. The states, where the party's nominees for the polls were discussed, included Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat and Goa.
On Thursday, BJP had released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections that will begin from April 11 and end on May 19. BJP announced that PM Narendra Modi will fight elections from Varanasi, party chief Amit Shah from Gandhinagar, Rajnath Singh from Lucknow, while Nitin Gadkari will contest election from Nagpur.
The announcement was made by the Union minister J P Nadda who released the list of the names of 184 candidates who will fight from their respective constituencies this national election. In the first list of 184 candidates, 16 are from Maharashtra, eight from Assam, two from Arunachal Pradesh, five from Chhatisgarh and Jammu and Kashmir each, 21 from Karnataka, 13 from Kerala, 10 from Odisha, 16 from Rajasthan, five from Tamil Nadu, 10 from Telangana, five from Uttarakhand, 28 from West Bengal and two from Andhra Pradesh.
Earlier this month, the Election Commission announced the dates of the much-awaited General Elections and stated that it would be conducted in seven phases across the country. The first phase of General Elections 2019 will be held on April 11 on as many as 91 Lok Sabha seats. Lok Sabha elections will begin on April 11 and continue for over a month till May 19 across seven phases, followed by counting of votes on May 23. The polling will be held on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19 for 543 Lok Sabha seats across the country in which nearly 90 crore voters would be eligible to vote.
