Earlier Bans

In a surprise decision in June, the Indian government decided to ban 59 Chinese apps including popular ones like TikTok, ShareIt, Parallel Space, etc. A move that was questioned by some but popularly hailed as a 'Digital Strike'.

After that, another ban was announced which prohibited 47 apps that are either the clones or 'light' versions of the already banned apps from being operational in India.

China had reacted strongly to the restrictions. In a statement, Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy, Counselor Ji Rong had said that the move taken by the Indian side to ban the Chinese apps has damaged the rights of Chinese Companies and that "India should correct its wrongdoings".
