Earlier on June 29, the central government had blocked access to 59 mobile apps, and then on September 2, 118 more apps were banned under section 69A of the Information Technology Act.
Popular apps to be blocked include TikTok, UC Browser, WeChat, Xiaomi’s apps - Mi Video Call, MI Community and more. Even popular gaming app PUBG faced the brunt of tensed India-China relations as it was blocked in the country over its association with Chinese multinational technology conglomerate Tencent.
"Government is committed to protecting the interests of citizens and sovereignty and integrity of India on all fronts and it shall take all possible steps to ensure that," the official response stated on Tuesday.
