4G speed in India: People of Navi Mumbai enjoy the highest 4G speed in the country as the city has registered an average download speed of 8.1 Mbps, according to OpenSignal's latest measurements. The London-based wireless coverage mapping company has tracked 20 Indian cities between December and February. It also reported Allahabad at the bottom of the list, being the only city to register 4 Mbps as an average speed. After Navi Mumbai, the second-spot has been taken by Hyderabad with 7.9 Mbps of 4G download speeds followed by Chennai and Kolkata at 8.46 Mbps. According to the company, 4 am smartphone users in 20 cities across India experienced average download speeds of 16.8 Mbps, compared with the daily average of 6.5 Mbps. Thus download speeds are up to 4.5 times faster at night. Here's the full list by OpenSignal: Navi Mumbai - 8.1 Mbps Hyderabad - 7.9 Mbps Chennai - 7.8 Mbps Kolkata - 7.8 Mbps Mumbai - 7.5 Mbps Vadodara - 7.1 Mbps Delhi - 7.0 Mbps Indore - 6.9 Mbps Bangalore - 6.7 Mbps Bhopal - 6.6 Mbps Nagpur - 6.4 Mbps Ahmadabad - 6.3 Mbps Surat - 6.2 Mbps Pune - 6.2 Mbps Ghaziabad - 6.2 Mbps Kanpur - 5.3 Mbps Lucknow - 5.2 Mbps Jaipur - 5.1 Mbps Patna - 5.0 Mbps Allahabad - 4.0 Mbps Francesco Rizzato, the Technical Analyst, OpenSignal, was quoted by IANS as saying, "India's smartphone users experience varying 4G download speeds depending on the city they live in. Navi Mumbai led our 20 cities' ranking with double the speed of Allahabad, which came last." "Hyderabad has the most consistent speeds and Allahabad has the highest variance. In all cities, 4G download speeds changed considerably at different hours of the day, the average download speeds being at 4.5 times faster at night," he further said. When the mobile network is busiest, the average LTE download speed drops 2.8 Mbps compared to the daily average with users in Allahabad experiencing the slowest 4G download speed at 2 Mbps. However, when the network is less congested, download speeds jump on average by 10.3 Mbps, with Indore hitting the highest speed of 21.6 Mbps. With the increasing number of people accessing mobile services, cheaper smartphone devices and rising average data consumption per user, mobile operators in the country can expect the number of connected devices and data traffic to continue to soar and network congestion to persist, the OpenSignal report noted.
