According to the developers, the high refresh rate make a major difference in gaming especially the ones that involve fighting as a second to second decision lead to victory or defeat and a rapid refresh rate in the display gives gamers a vital edge.
"A screen with a high refresh rate displays more images every second, allowing you to pick up the movements of your opponent's character quicker and act that little bit faster. A 120Hz display shows a new image every 0.008 seconds," said Michael Kim, an engineer from the Display Group at Samsung Electronics' Mobile Communications Business.
While such a display also facilitates 3D gaming, it also provides a better screen control environment, which means it makes it easier for users to touch, scroll, and swipe their screens.
The better screen control environment also leads to a better viewing experience as it gives the illusion of watching something in realtime.

"A high refresh rate on a display helps give a real, grounded sense of touch to users when they are scrolling," said engineer Sung-won Ryu.
Currently displays with 60Hz refresh rate (60 images displayed per second) are common in smartphones, any other display that offers a higher refresh rate that is considered to be a 'high refresh rate display'.
While the true strength of a 120Hz display remains unexplored by the common smartphone users, Michael Kim believes once they experience it, they will not wish to go back to a 60 Hz refresh rate.
Citing the example of the difference between SD and HD said, "With apps such as YouTube now offering videos in basic HD quality, when you go back and watch older videos on the platform in SD, you realize that the quality is actually much lower than you originally thought. The same is true of 120Hz displays. People may have no complaints about a 60Hz display, but once they get used to the quality of 120Hz, they can never go back to 60Hz."
